Several weeks ago Aimee and I were heading out to the Gunnison River to hammer some kokanee salmon, an activity which can definitely leave you parched. As we were leaving town I decided that I needed something special to help quench my thirst while I watched her hook fish after fish. I don’t normally splurge for fancy lagers; I’m pretty darn cheap and have been drinking PBR for a good long while, so it was a bit of a surprise when I found myself walking out of the liquor store with a six pack of Upslope Brewing Company’s Craft Lager.

I’m glad I strayed from my PBR standard. Not only is the Craft Lager a very high quality, delicious, drinkable beer it also is part of the 1% for Rivers Campaign. As per the Upslope website “One percent of revenues from the sales of Upslope Craft Lager will be donated to Colorado Trout Unlimited in order to protect watersheds statewide. Protecting snowmelt at its source is not only good for trout; it’s also good for Colorado beer.” I couldn’t agree more, there isn’t anything better than downing a couple of crisp Colorado beers in order to help support local efforts to protect our rivers.

Upslope can

Appearance: a nice yellow/gold color with medium sized white head and lots of bubbles. Minimal lacing as the head slowly diminished.

Smell: Pleasant lager smell more sweet than yeasty.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Smooth and light, slightly watery feeling. Easy drinking, very sessionable.

Overall: It’s a lager. Doesn’t do anything amazingly well but it’s a nice change from your normal domestic, especially since they are giving back to our local rivers.

WE’RE BACK!!

Bull Trout
Tasty-Takes has been neglected as of late. The Eaton Brothers have been split up, both have moved, both are married and one has even changed jobs; as a result posting on Tasty-Takes has fallen by the wayside.

Now we are both settled and Tasty-Takes is BACK!
P1040431 We are also very excited to have added another member to our staff, starting this winter we’ll have weekly blog posts, how-to’s and gear reviews provided by Aimee Eaton. Aimee is a freelance journalist whose work has appeared in Trail Runner, The New York Times and The Fly-Fish Journal. Check out her blog. Lucky for all of us here at Tasty-Takes Aimee has decided to give up writing professionally and has dedicated her life to fishing. (Well not really, but she is excited enough about fishing that she is willing to help us out on a regular basis.)

The flavor of Tasty-Takes is going to change slightly; instead of entertaining daily fishing related posts we will have only a few posts a week and most will be beer reviews, gear reviews, how-to’s, fly tying patterns and videos, fishing tips, possibly an occasional trip report and anything else that we think you might find interesting.

If anyone has suggestions for content, beers to review, or any other ideas that would make Tasty-Takes great please email me at mike@tasty-takes.com.

Tight Lines,
Mike, Chris and Aimee
